PHNOM PENH– Clean Energy Week (CEW), Cambodia’s largest and most impactful event dedicated to clean energy, concluded today with a celebratory Toast to Clean Energy and the presentation of the Clean Energy Awards.
Now in its eighth year, CEW 2025 highlighted Cambodia’s progress in renewable energy development, showcasing transformative efforts that benefit the nation and position Cambodia as an emerging leader in Southeast Asia’s energy transition.
The week’s program focused on how clean energy can strengthen Cambodia’s existing industries, such as garment production and tourism, while attracting millions of dollars of new investment in energy-intensive and clean technology industries powered by clean energy. There was also an engaging evening of original short documentaries by Cambodian students telling stories of clean energy innovations and successes, as well as an exhibition showcasing original Solarpunk artwork by Cambodians and digital works by artists from across Southeast Asia.
Underscoring the importance of energy transition to the country’s social and economic development, Mr. Natharoun Ngo Son, EnergyLab Regional Director said "This year, we set a new path, to demonstrate that clean energy is not just a strong climate lever, but a powerful economic one as well. It will help Cambodia protect existing industries, while attracting new ones. It will promote faster adaptation to changing trade rules and increasing tariffs, while increasing competitiveness".
Reflecting on the week’s successes, Australia’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Derek Yip said, “As a founding partner of Clean Energy Week, Australia is pleased to continue supporting Cambodia’s clean energy transition. CEW is an opportunity to celebrate Cambodia’s progress in expanding access to renewable energy and discuss the opportunities and challenges of the clean energy transition.”
A highlight of CEW 2025 was the Clean Energy Awards, recognising outstanding contributions from individuals, organisations, and initiatives that are driving Cambodia’s clean energy progress. The awards celebrated pioneering efforts across multiple categories, from Clean Energy Champion Award (won by Dr. Kinnaleth Vongchanh) to Energy Efficiency Award (won by Sela Pepper Co., Ltd), and Most Impactful Clean Energy Community Project (won by UNICEF).
The week’s close was marked by a Toast to Clean Energy, a celebratory moment to acknowledge the collective efforts and partnerships advancing Cambodia’s clean energy agenda. This closing celebration reflected the strong commitments from the Royal Government of Cambodia whose initiatives are positioning Cambodia on a sustainable, resilient path.
CEW is Cambodia’s premier event focused on advancing clean energy solutions. It serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and policy development aimed at accelerating the clean energy transition in Cambodia. It is organised by EnergyLab Asia, in partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia, and in collaboration with co-founders, Australia and the United Nations Development Program.
UNDP has been driving conversations on innovation and policy solutions, including green finance and risk mitigation, to accelerate Cambodia’s shift toward a sustainable energy future. Building on this momentum, UNDP stands ready to work with the Royal Government of Cambodia to advance innovative financing mechanisms and create the enabling conditions for a low-carbon energy transition.
H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, emphasised “The Royal Government of Cambodia has set ambitious commitments to diversifying our energy mix, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and accelerating clean and renewable energy sources. Cambodia has made significant progress in promoting environmental sustainability, while also expanding access to electricity and increasing the share of renewable energy, which increased from 0.3 percent in 2014 to over 50 percent in 2024. Moreover, Cambodia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) outlines a clear pathway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in five sectors. The energy sector, including energy transport, manufacturing, and construction, is one of the key milestones to mitigate greenhouse gas and promote green jobs and social inclusivity.”
